A new standard for HDMI cables.
The new HDMI 1.4 standard was released in June 2009. This standard supports the following product features:
The testing specifications for this standard were released in October 2009.
In November 2009 HDMI Licencing LLC released new guidelines for the use of version numbers in marketing and packaging to try and eliminate some of the confusion in the marketplace which had the potential to mislead the consumer. The use of version numbers in marketing and packaging on cables was expressly forbidden. This is to be replaced by using one of the following five logos and specifying the supported features.
If you look for these logos you can be assured that the HDMI® cable that you are buying has passed certification and will support the features listed.
HDMI 1.4 Ethernet cables come in two versions. Standard are suitable for use with displays less than 32" in size and up to 1080i. High Speed cables are recommended for screens greater than 32" at 1080p or for use with gaming consoles and Blu-ray DVD players which have a data speed greater than 4 gigabits per second.
HDMI Ethernet Channel technology combines video, audio, and data streams into a single HDMI cable, combining the signal quality and convenience of HDMI connectivity with the flexibility of home entertainment networking. It incorporates a dedicated data channel into the HDMI cable, enabling high-speed, bi-directional networking at up to 100 Kb/sec.
With networking capabilities becoming popular in a wide range of IP-enabled home entertainment devices, adding an Ethernet channel is a step forward in the evolution of the HDMI standard. You can enjoy all the benefits of Ethernet connectivity via HDMI, and further simplify your systems by eliminating the need for separate Ethernet cables.
HDMI Systems will be stocking a range of different lengths in HDMI 1.4 Ethernet cables.
